Every now and again, AlmostPro is going to take a moment to recognize excellence in the “almost pro” field. That is to say, that there are some people who although they are not making a living with photography, they certainly could be. Today is the first of this series and I am happy to bring to you a favorite of mine from that little photo sharing site called Flickr, maybe you have heard of it. (if you haven’t go there……now…..errr after you read this..)
Known on Flickr as “Darth Bayne” Bruce Berry is a prime example of an “almost” pro photographer. Bruce does not make his living as a photographer, but you wouldn’t know if from looking at his pictures. While living in Sweden, he picked up the photography bug on a trip to Norway and soon after started shooting film.
Bruce is actually a doctoral student of Biochemistry and Biophysics in Philadelphia.
“I’m currently living and working in Philadelphia and plan to finish my studies here and head back to Stockholm to complete my thesis.”
Berry’s photography is really a joy to look at. He has an incredibly diverse portfolio which includes HDR, Infrared, Black and White, travel, panorama’s and even more advanced post processing like cloning (a self portrait with TWO of yourself in the same shot). When asked about his approach to photography he said:
“the bottom line is that I really want to learn as much as possible and become a complete photographer, so that I am able to take a picture in any situation and also adjust to any situation that presents itself on the shoot.”
